Boring read
Fascinating account of early Hawaii (the Sandwich Islands), California, and Oregon Territory, which the included what is now Washington State. A travel guide to the sights, people and their customs, and history of those places. Delightful and sympathetic. Wonderful illustrations. Nordhoff (1830-1901) was born in Prussia and emigrated to the U.S. when fifteen years old. At sea for nine years with the navy and merchant marine. Became a staff writer for the New York Evening Post and then the New York Herald. A treasure trove of early information.
I'm am from New York moving to Sacramento area thanks to this book I have learned all about the area. I am not there yet .But thanks to this book I know what to aspect.
